WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This workshop will focus on the analysis of how context lives in ASL. Participants will learn about and identify ASL features that can be used to add and layer context, with the goal of creating a textured ASL expression. Participants will engage in interactive activities that reverse engineer, and then stack this layering process. These activities will use imagery derived from widely known examples, such as movie scenes, famous locations as well as quotes of the participants’ choosing (with some guidance from the facilitator). The goal is to broaden understanding of textured and creative ASL expression that can be beneficial in a variety of professional contexts, for all interlocutors of a given engagement.
Educational Objectives:
Participants will identify 4 ASL morphological features to add context to support their ASL expression.
Participants will define "textured ASL expression".
